  • What it does:
    • Free spay/neuter surgery.
    • Free vaccinations with spay/neuter surgery.
    • Free nail trims with spay/neuter surgery.
    • Free signed DHA Veterinarian Certification that you need to register your pet.
  • How it works:
    • Get a “Pet Packet” from your public housing service coordinator, your fellow resident, or call us (303) 888-1833 and we’ll get one to you.
    • Everything you need is in the Pet Packet.
    • You schedule your appointment with our veterinary partner.
    • You bring your pet to our veterinary partner clinic. Never miss the appointment because you will be personally charged.

  • Good Pet Owner Awards
    • For residents who have done the right thing: 1) for their pet’s health by spaying/neutering and 2) for DHA by putting their pet on the lease.

    • What it does:
      • Re-vaccinations whenever needed.
    • How it works:
      • Your manager confirms that your pet is on the lease.
      • We confirm that your pet is already spayed/neutered. If you’re a former client, just tell us your name and pet’s name, and we confirm the spay/neuter surgery with our veterinary partner. If you’re not our former client, please send us the spay/neuter surgery or adoption record.

  • If a You Cannot Keep a Pet . . .
    • For all public housing residents, whenever needed.
    • Who created this program? The Bridge Project children at Columbine and Debbie Main.
    • What it does:
      • Arranges an adoption family for your pet and gives you peace of mind.
    • How it works:
      • We pick up the pet.
      • We bring the pet to our shelter adoption partner.
      • We let you know when the animal is settled in at the shelter.
      • Our adoption partner examines the pet for medical and behavior issues and makes the adoption decision.
      • Our adoption partner treats medical issues.
      • Our adoption partner finds a family.
      • We keep you updated all along, and when the pet has a new family.

  • If You Find a Stray Animal . . .
    • For any stray animal found in public housing, whenever needed.
    • Who created this program? The Bridge Project children at Columbine and Debbie Main.

  • Community Mousers
    • For all public housing residents who want to care for the cats living on the streets in and around public housing.
    • Who created this program? Robert Zamora, former South Lincoln Maintenance Tech, Rita Jaramillo, South Lincoln Resident, and Debbie Main
    • What it does:
      • Reduces the number of cats living on the streets and takes good care of the ones with no other options.
    • How it works:
      • We schedule our trapping partner to come out.
      • For friendly cats, our trapping partner picks up and brings the cat to our shelter partner who treats medical conditions and finds an adoption family.
      • For truly wild cats, our trapping partner schedules a trapping day with the resident; informs DHA; traps the cats; spays/neuters/vaccinates; and returns the cats.
      • A public housing resident who loves animals takes care and feeds the cats with our donated food and supplies.
      • The few remaining cats contribute positively to the public housing sense of community.
